About our services

Sunday worship

08:00 St Leonards, Flamstead 1st and 3rd Sundays; St John's Markyate 2nd and 4th Sundays.

Quiet // Reflective
This service is the perfect way to start the day, especially if you have a mountain of things to do and places to be. The service is traditional, but not fussy. There is a short pause for thought before the celebration of communion. The service lasts 30 minutes.

Welcoming // Inclusive
The 9.30am service at Markyate is the time when the whole church community gathers together for communion. The service is supported by our growing choir and children are welcome to join ‘Rise and Shine’, our weekly Sunday School. The service lasts about 50 minutes. We share tea and coffee afterwards.

The 11.15am service is Flamstead's glorious main Sunday Communion service, with hymns and a sermon.

Evensong : Markyate - 17:00

Reflective // Contemplative
The evening service is a movable feast, but is always calm and reflective. Evening services are often Evensong, taken from The Book of Common Prayer. Once a month Evensong is supported by our special Choral Evensong Choir who sing a range of traditional music to a high standard.

If it’s not Evensong then we typically enjoy Evening Prayer (from Common Worship), Taize or (in certain seasons) Compline. Please see the notice sheet or the online calendar for services and venues. Services last up to 40 minutes.

Short // Joyful
