Sunday worship

One faith, Two churches, Four options

THE EIGHT - Flamstead - 08:00

Quiet // Reflective
This service is the perfect way to start the day, especially if you have a mountain of things to do and places to be. The service is traditional in form, but not fussy. There is a short pause for thought which precedes the celebration of communion. The service lasts 25 minutes.

THE NINE THIRTY - Markyate - 09:30

Welcoming // Inclusive
The nine thirty at Markyate is the time when the whole church community gathers together to recall the last supper of Jesus, to reflect on his teaching and to sing of God’s love. The service is supported by our growing choir and children are welcome to join ‘Rise and Shine’, our weekly Sunday School. The service is followed by refreshments and a chance to talk. The service lasts one hour.

THE ELEVEN - Flamstead - 11:00

All Age // Traditional
The eleven is our flagship service for the village of Flamstead and welcomes all ages. Services are shaped by the traditional sung Communion service which is celebrated with a relaxed dignity. The service is supported with hymns and enthusiastic team of servers. Incense is used. Children are welcome at every service – we don’t mind noise! On the second Sunday of the month there is a special Sunday school for children. The service lasts one hour.

THE SIX - Flamstead or Markyate - 18:00

Reflective // Contemplative
The evening service is a movable feast, but is always calm and reflective. Evening services are often Evensong, taken from The Book of Common Prayer. Once a month Evensong is supported by our special Choral Evensong Choir who sing a range of traditional music to a high standard. If it’s not Evensong then we typically enjoy Evening Prayer (from Common Worship), Taize or (in certain seasons) Compline. Please see the notice sheet or the online calendar for services and venues. Services last up to 40 minutes.

In the week

Seven whole days, not one in seven

MORNING PRAYER - Flamstead - 09:00

Short // Reflective
Morning Prayer happens Tuesday to Friday in Flamstead Church at 9am. The service lasts 15 minutes and is a chance to reflect on scripture and pray for people in our parishes, whatever their needs.

EVENING PRAYER - Markyate - 17:00

Short // Reflective
Like Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer happens Tuesday to Friday, in Markyate Church, at 5pm. The service lasts 15 minutes and is a great opportunity to pause to recall with thankfulness the day that is now passing. During the seasons of Advent and Lent, Evening Prayer is sometimes replaced with Compline at 8pm.

Intimate // Prayerful
At 10am on Wednesdays we gather together for a short and simple service of Holy Communion. This service is perfect for those who might not be able to make it on a Sunday or those who work from home. The service is followed by Coffee. Children are very welcome.

THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY - Flamstead - 10:00

Short // Joyful
It’s nearly the weekend! This service is perfect for those with young children at home or those who can’t make it on a Sunday morning. At Flamstead we meet at 10am for a short and informal Communion service. Children are very welcome and the service is followed by fresh coffee and delicious homemade cakes. Join the growing number who enjoy this service!
