Sunday worship

From September 2020 Flamstead Church is closed for visitors, for private prayer and for public worship as work begins on the roof. All services will be held at St. John's in Markyate.

THE EIGHT - Markyate - 08:00

Quiet // Reflective
This service is the perfect way to start the day, especially if you have a mountain of things to do and places to be. The service is traditional in form, but not fussy. There is a short pause for thought which precedes the celebration of communion. The service lasts 25 minutes.

THE TEN FIFTEEN - Markyate - 10.15

Welcoming // Inclusive
The new 10.15 service at Markyate is the time when the whole church community gathers together to recall the last supper of Jesus, to reflect on his teaching and to sing of God’s love. The service is supported by our growing choir and children are welcome to join ‘Rise and Shine’, our weekly Sunday School (not meeting currently). The service lasts 40 minutes.

THE SIX - Markyate - 18:00

Reflective // Contemplative
The evening service is a movable feast, but is always calm and reflective. Evening services are often Evensong, taken from The Book of Common Prayer. Once a month Evensong is supported by our special Choral Evensong Choir who sing a range of traditional music to a high standard. If it’s not Evensong then we typically enjoy Evening Prayer (from Common Worship), Taize or (in certain seasons) Compline. Please see the notice sheet or the online calendar for services and venues. Services last up to 40 minutes.

In the week

Seven whole days, not one in seven

Intimate // Prayerful
At 10am on Wednesdays we gather together for a short and simple service of Holy Communion. This service is perfect for those who might not be able to make it on a Sunday or those who work from home. The service is followed by Coffee. Children are very welcome.

THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY - Markyate - 10:00

Short // Joyful
It’s nearly the weekend! This service is perfect for those with young children at home or those who can’t make it on a Sunday morning. At Markyate we meet at 10am for a short and informal Communion service. Children are very welcome and the service is followed by fresh coffee and delicious homemade cakes. Join the growing number who enjoy this service!
